    TCI TOP MODEL 2013 

    PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands; Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013 – Its was hot couture at the reflecting pool on the grounds of the glamorous and ultra-exclusive Regent Palms Resort on Providenciales over the weekend.  Saturday, March 30th featured Couture @ Regent Palms Resort Spa, an event that was alive with couture fashion, fierce music and all things extraordinary as the 10 Contestants vying for the Turks & Caicos preeminent and only coveted title made their official debut to the media, proud partners and specially invited guests!

    Couture @ Regent Palms Resort Spa, ‘a day where beauty is personified’ – was not only heavily anticipated, but a fabulous and fashionable launch event drawing a well dressed and well turned out crowd for the early afternoon fashion parade!

    Wearing chic styles, bright colours, spring florals, tweed blazers and silk chiffon garments that were worn with statement accessories – the audience were in awe as each contestant took her turn strutting down and around the reflecting pool, pivoting and posing with male models who were object-d’art. The air was electric. There were thunderous rounds of applause. Guests commented that the affair debuting the 10 young ladies proved to be thoroughly exciting, one in which they have never seen.

    Attendees remarked how strong and confident each girl was. They were impressed with their pedigree, noting that competition was indeed stiff, as it appeared each girl wanted the TCI Top Model title – and showed it through her performance.

    “I was mesmerized from the moment the girls took to the staging area! I couldn’t take my eyes off them. Their utter beauty; the self-confidence and sophistication at which these young ladies displayed; I was totally transported to Paris, France,” said Ora Hazenfratz, a Hungarian fashion photographer that’s based in New York. “Their presentation was that of any top model working today. These young ladies are unique in every sense of the word and performed with great élan. I cannot wait for the main event; I’m sure many will get signed and the event will be an overwhelming success!”

    The event also featured Bougainvillea Designs by Stephanie D. of The Flower Girl. Not entirely new to the fashion trade, Mrs Stephanie Duncanson is making her forway in couture wedding gowns. She produced her first piece, a silk voile gown with hand painted bougainvillea that was modeled by Washanda Registre, TCI Top Model 2012.

    The event also saw a parade of fashions offered at the Regent Palms Resort boutiques, which was worn by sixteen of the most stunningly attract male and female models, giving guest a flavour of that which was available on property.

    Following on from the launch, event organizers will host Before Couture: An afternoon on Regent Street, an event that is open to the public. On Saturday, April 27th, at 4pm, there will be appearances by the 2013 TCI Top Model Contestants, a fashion show featuring area retailers, a live band, fashion challenges, fabulous cuisine and importantly – the most fantastic pre-event party of patrons lives!

    The actual 2013 TCI Top Model Contest themed Royele Couture: LUXE will be held at the Williams Auditorium in Providenciales on Saturday, May 4th - seeing to the catwalk competition, performances by Barbara Johnson, Julian Garland, Carl Lewis, among a host of other high end entertainers, fashion designers and boutiques making presentations. Tickets are currently available for purchase – VIP $75 and General Admission – $50. Persons are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance of the Contest, as it will be an additional $10 more at the door.

    As the 2013 Miss  Turks and Caicos Universe approaches, the ladies lining up to be the next Miss TCI have been unveiled. The six beauties, Miss Snwazna Adams, Miss Crystal Coleby, Miss Cortrina Cooper, Miss Vanessa Hall, Miss Tymant Dean and Miss Frenica Williams were presented to the media on Monday, February 11th, at an event hosted by Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort Villages and Spa.

    Among those in attendance were Premier Hon. Dr. Rufus Ewing; Leader of the Official Opposition, Honorable Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson and Public Relations Officer for Tourist Board, Mr. Dave Fennimore.

    The Miss Turks and Caicos Universe Beauty Organization President, Mr. Kazz Forbes said, “Today we begin a new era of pageantry in the Turks and Caicos Islands. We welcome the business community to partner with us, the government to generously support us, and the public to cheer each of these beautiful young ladies as they stand at the threshold of a new chapter in their lives.”

    Over the past several weeks, the contestants have engaged in a rigorous schedule of coaching sessions which include on confidence, elegance and poise, interviewing and presentation skills. The coaching sessions will continue to take place twice weekly until the week before coronation night. The pageant is scheduled for 27th April, 2013.

    PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands; Monday, January 21st 2013 – After an extensive search covering the length and breathe of the Turks & Caicos Islands, training workshops are to commence this week for the selected few, where one young lady will emerge the new Face of the Turks & Caicos, TCI Top Model 2013.

    Over the last two weeks, organizers of the 2013 TCI Top Model Contest & Fashion Extravaganza hosted contestants, models and fashion designers searches in both the nation’s capital, Grand Turk and Providenciales. The searches unearth an impressive array of beautiful young ladies and equally attractive males, along with a jewelry design team excitedly waiting to showcase to the world what they have on offer.

    “In just a matter of weeks, the fashion landscape will change owing to our fourth installment – Royele Couture: LUXE. Of the persons that applied online or we met at the searches, we have short listed them from 53 to 26 potential candidates to be groomed for the events, with 10 young ladies eventually moving on to compete in the 2013 TCI Top Model Contest,” said Courtney Robinson, Director of Production.

    “All the models were desirous for this opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to walk in the most heavily anticipated event that kick-starts show season and to meet with fashion modeling agencies from New York, the door that truly opens them to the fashion world. We saw not only persons who were taller, sleeker and fitter, but also knowledgeable about this creative industry. Importantly, they were keen to get started,” said Robinson.

    The Search saw the application of jewelry design team Pyro, which are looking to become one of the leading accessory providers in the Turks and Caicos. The Pyro team comes out of the Youth Entrepreneurship Programme and TCI Top Model Organizers are always excited to work with the youth in our community.

    “These young persons wowed us with their craftsmanship, creativity, style and presentation,” said Michelle Swann, Head of Fashion and Personal Development. “We were thoroughly impressed and will be working diligently with them arm-in-arm to assist with their design elements, promotions and marketing collateral through the TCI Top Model Contest events.”

    In the run up to the event, all talent will attend workshops on ‘the fashion industry,’ ‘personality & self-esteem,’ ‘presentation skills,’ ‘networking & interviewing skills,’ ‘branding & being a spokesperson,’ ‘fitness & healthy eating,’ ‘life in the media’ and ‘being an ambassador.’ This, along with runway training and doing photo-shoots.

    The workshops are fundamentally important, as it will give these young persons the tools they will need for this industry and meeting new people who can, and will make a difference in their lives. This training will go a long way whether they stay in fashion or wherever life takes them.

    It is the hope of the TCI Top Model Contest Organising Committee that those in the public rally behind this initiative, and persons in the business community help support this most rewarding and ambitious endeavour; as in doing so, everyone becomes apart of helping deserving individuals realize their fashion and creative dreams.

    The 2013 TCI Top Model Contest & Fashion Extravaganza will take place at The Williams Auditorium in Provoidenciales on Saturday, May 4th, 2013.

    PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands, Monday, August 6th, 2012 – Turks & Caicos Islands ‘It Girl’ to the fashion world – Washanda Registre – returns home following a successful trip to New York City.  With her Wilhelmina Models portfolio folder in hand, Washanda excitedly awaits a quick return to the Big Apple this autumn!

    Wilhelmina Models requested Washanda, the 2012 TCI Top Model Contest winner – to the fashion capital of America, to meet with their various boards and divisions; that, along with having scheduled appointments with potential clients, casting directors and test photo shoots to promote her career as a Wilhelmina model. At Wilhelmina, Washanda will be promoted on their ‘new faces’, ‘women’s’ and ‘runway’ divisions – giving her the widest possible opportunity to spread her wings and soar!

    “Being in New York was super exciting. I am ever so grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity to travel there, meet with Wilhelmina Models’ representatives, stay at the models’ apartment, go on castings, meet working models and do a photoshoot with a top photographer. Everything went well and everyone was so nice and welcoming. I am so happy I can burst,” said a joyful Washanda.

    “Just being there – the lights, the colours, the sounds, the smells of New York City; the people rushing about – nothing no one says to you can really prepare you for it – you just have get there. It all moves so fast! And, of course the food, the entertainment and shopping. I can surely get used to this lifestyle,” said the bubbly 5’10” Turks & Caicos Islands beauty, adding: “Modeling is truly something that I know I can do and excel in. I want this more than anything else.”

    While she lived Soho, Washanda also had a mini tour of the city in between appointments: Times Square, Ground Zero, South Street Sea Port, The Empire State Building/Heralds Square, Battery Park, Union Square, Harlem and a visit to Jamaica, Queens – not to mention seeing Zarkana by Cirque du Soliel at Radio City Music Hall.

    She also did a photo shoot with Maxim Repin, a noted Russian fashion photographer who has shot for L’Officiel, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, GQ, InStyle, Jalouse and many other stellar fashion magazines and top modeling agencies. The resulting photographs were amazing and Washanda surely will have some great images to assist in launching her international modeling career.

    While in the Turks & Caicos for a few short weeks, Wilhelmina is making ready for Washanda’s return this Fall. Then, she will be in the Big Apple for six to eight weeks to meet with more clients, casting directors, and do photo-shoots to further develop, promote and push her – as Wilhelmina Models knows that Washanda Registre is a star in the making who will put herself and by in large Turks & Caicos Islands on the fashion map!

    Accompanying the TCI Top Model to New York were Charmaine Clarke, her chaperone and Courtney Robinson, TCI Top Model’s Executive Producer.

    PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands; Monday, 30 July 2012 – Latoya Pinder wins the inaugural Miss Body Beautiful TCI pageant – witnessed by a capacity crowd that was live! The 25-year-old Bahamian national captured the crown over the weekend, which took place at The Williams Auditorium in Downtown Providenicales that saw ten (10) young ladies of diversity compete for the coveted title. However, Miss Pinder, with her confident demeanor, dazzling smile, standout physique and captivating stage presentation – bested them all.

    “I am truly ecstatic that I won. I prepared myself, took on board the advice and coaching provided, and went out on that stage with the knowledge that I was the winner. And with my faith and belief that I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me – I felt self assured that the crown was mine,” said a beaming Latoya of her win.

    Not only did Latoya, a mother of one – won the pageant, but she also successful at winning the ‘Facebook Like Me’ award with 386 votes. Owning to this, Radio Turks & Caicos (RTC) has invited Latoya to do spot show – live on air.

    The Miss Body Beautiful TCI Pageant is one that aspires women to appreciate the beauty of whom they are inside and out. As a fitness and personal growth competition, the show is geared towards empowering women to have a positive image of self, that they can accept their bodies as they are – thereby showcasing it in its entire splendor. The pageant was open to ladies 18 years of age and older, with no restriction on height, body shape, marital status or nationality. Through the event, contestants gained from the exposure and the experience, which will do well for their personal growth, development and potential modeling career.

    The pageant saw the contestants compete for a LIME advertising campaign, cellular phones with service plans, resort stays, cash and numerous fabulous prizes. What is more, in the run up to the event, all contestants had the opportunity to get as fit as they possibly could with complementary training courtesy of Rock It Hot Fitness Studio. Additionally, they partook in workshops on ‘The Ultimate You! Living to Love Yourself’ hosted by Mrs Tremainne Swann-Harvey, ‘Fitness and Healthy Eating’ conducted by Miss Straudy Lightbourne – along with stage presentation by Courtney Robinson, the event’s Executive Producer.

    There were three disciplines of competition before the contestants were whittled down to the top five. Namely: introduction, swimwear and fantasy wear. During each segment, they were judged on their confidence, personality, performance and overall stage presentation.

    As pageant of diversity, so too were the judges. Head judge was Wenieka Ewing, Miss Turks & Caicos Universe 2004/5 who represented the Turks and Caicos Islands at the 2005 Miss Universe Pageant held in Bangkok Thailand where she won the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Award for her national costume which she designed; that, along with placing third runner’s up at the 2005 Miss Caribbean World Pageant in Tortola, BVI – winning Miss Intellect.

    The remaining judges included Kazz Forbes, noted Photographer and Fashion Designer for Saint George Fashion House; Mrs Delleriece Hall, Vice President of Corporate Sales, LIME Telecommunications; John Wright, Proprietor – Wrightfully Fit Fitness Center; and Mrs Constance Lighbourne-Cousins, the first Miss Turks & Caicos (1979) to represent the Turks & Caicos at the Miss Universe Pageant in Seoul, Korea in 1980.

    After the cut, making the top five were Shamarah Rigby, Janice Bernadin, Straudia Forbes, Sarantina Phlintrophe and Latoya Pinder. However, to garner a winner, the five remaining ladies had to answer the surprise question of the night: “Why do you think your body is beautiful?” This pushed the ante up a notch, as it formed the true indication of who the winner may be.

    Scores generated from the question & answer segment combined with the contestants’ previous scores revealed that Latoya Pinder was the won Miss Body Beautiful TCI 2012. Janice Bernadin was named First Runner’s Up, with Straudia Forbes placing second.

    The pageant featured the re-launching of Black Out, Turks & Caicos’s premier recording artists and international act. Its members, Orane Peanknock, Romaine “Trigga App” Pinnock, Eustace “E-Swann” Swann and Twiston “Twis-Flo” Florbes took to the stage twice – giving the audience a showcase they wont soon forget. Also giving a standout performance was DMV with lead signer Donessia Gardiner accompanied by backing dancers Vanessa Hall and Jelicia Skippings entertaining like none other. Audley “Illegal Poet” Astwood said two of his highly acclaimed poems. To cap things off, Dion Pratt Jnr took to the stage with two fabulous dance routines that had the audience on their feet as the young ballet and jazz dancer pumped up the volume.

    The inaugural Miss Body Beautiful TCI Pageant surely surpassed the hype and gave the audience a lot more than they bargained for. The show returns next year with an additional component – “Mr Best Body”. The dual event will take place at the end of June 2013! This double header will not be one to miss!
