Miss Earth TCI Alison Capron departed the Turks and Caicos Islands on Thursday, October 28, 2009 for this year’s Miss Earth Pageant. 23-year old Alison will be representing the country at the 9th staging of the international “Beauty-For-A-Cause” pageant to be held in the Philippines. The WIV Channel 4 News anchor-woman will be away from TCI soil for a month to participate in the pageant’s preliminary competitions and social functions, until the main coronation night on November 22nd in Boracay, located in central Philippines.
Since winning the local title in July, Alison had been busy preparing for the international pageant, and is very confident that she will also shine in the Miss Earth pageant and show everyone what a Turks & Caicos beauty is all about.
“I am excited. I have prepared for this and I hope to bring back the crown,” Alison said in an interview prior to leaving. Her supporters believe that her pleasant personality will earn her the crown.
Within the first quarter of her term as an environmental advocate, Alison have participated in a number of clean-up campaigns, visited schools, initiated community programmes and have worked closely with the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources on a number of projects.
If Alison wins the title, she will have a bigger task: serve as the spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and other environmental organizations. About 87 contestants from different countries and territories are participating in the event. At the conclusion of the competition, outgoing titleholder Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry of the Philippines will crown her successor.
