The British Overseas Territory of the Turks and Caicos has managed to attract development that compliments its natural heritage. The protectorate is spread out across nearly 200 different islands and cays in the Caribbean Sea, of which only 8 are inhabited. A Caribbean investment property is never far from nature on the Turks and Caicos.
Providenciales, where many Turks and Caicos real estate opporunities can be found, is serviced by an international airport that offers easy access to Miami, New York, Toronto, and even Europe. All of the islands in the Turks and Caicos enjoy mild, sunny weather year-round, perfect for sitting on the beach, experiencing adventure underwater, or exploring nature – 80 percent of the Turk and Caicos are unihabited. Dolphins frequently visit Grace Bay, on the island of Providenciales.
Besides supporting a large population of frigate birds, one of the largest flamingo rookeries in the world can be found in the Turks and Caicos, while each year, humpback whales, turtles, dolphins and rays migrate through the Columbus Passage that seperates the Caicos Islands group from the Turks. The reefs guarding the Turks and Caicos are 800 kilometers long, and provide many spots to snorkel and dive with with turtles, rays, snapper and tropical fish.
Little Water Cay is home to the endangered rock iguana, unique to the Turks and Caicos. Nearly 50,000 iguanas live on the cay, and the algae-loving animal can be spotted on more than 50 isolated island oases in the warm Caribbean. Fish, dolphins, and many species of rare corals fill the surrounding waters.
Many wildlife areas are accessible by boat trip from the islands’ Caribbean investment properties. In the past, many retirees traveled to the islands for golf. These days, visitors choose to relocate here to explore a tropical paradise that exists nowhere else.
